WOW! That is the expletive we used when we first popped the Brasil Guitar Duo’s electronic press kit into the player and read the words “recorded Live.” Then we found ourselves saying, “WOW! This is flawless.” João Luiz and Douglas Lora met in São Paulo as teenage guitar students and have been performing together for more than ten years, perfecting a sublime synchronicity and effortless performance style. In the recording studio, the Brasil Guitar Duo’s debut for the Naxos label features two CDs of the complete works for two guitars by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. One of many stellar reviews, the American Record Guide touted, “It would be hard to imagine a better performance...This is wonderful music played at the highest interpretive level.” Highlights of the Brasil Guitar Duo’s US concerts include the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts’ biennial Ellnora Guitar Festival, Black Rock Center for the Performing Arts (MD), the Montalvo Center for the Arts(CA), the Dayton Philharmonic and, of course, Second Street Live in Fort Smith AR.
